Forensics Tournament Champions

Forensics 2016 NSDA QualifierOn Saturday, March 19th, the MCHS Forensics team competed in the National Speech and Debate Association National Qualifier Tournament.  Students from all across the commonwealth competed for qualification to the NSDA National Tournament in Salt Lake City, UT this June.  The hard work that these students have been putting in this year paid off.
  • In Duo Interpretation, the teams of Taylor Davis/David Miller and Ben Butterworth/Noah Powers made it to the semifinal round.
  • In Dramatic Interpretation, Scotti Mullen made it to the semifinal round.
  • Rose Young broke into the semifinal rounds in both Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and Original Oratory.
  • Dustin Cone placed 4th in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and 5th in Original Oratory.
  • In Humorous Interpretation, Michael Broyles placed 6th and Molly Thomas was the state champion, qualifying for the national tournament.
  • In Dramatic Interpretation, Steven Franklin took 3rd place, Jacob Corbin was the state runner-up, and Jordan Taylor was the state champion, all three qualifying for the national tournament.
  • In Duo Interpretation, the team of Autumn Chasse and Rebecca Young was the state runner-up and also qualified for the national tournament.
  • Camryn Powers was the state champion in Original Oratory qualified for the national tournament.
  • Bryanna Smith was the state runner-up in Program Oral Interpretation, a new event to the high school NSDA categories. This year is a trial period for POI. It will hopefully become a permanent event next year.
  • In addition to these fantastic individual performances, the team also took the 2016 Virginia NSDA State Championship.
