Waverly Yowell’s 3rd end-of-the-nine weeks assembly did not disappoint! The assembly began with the girl scout troop, led by Mrs. Clatterbuck presenting the colors, and 5th grade student, Vanessa Britton, singing our national anthem.
Special awards from the Madison Women’s Garden club included Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl poster contest winners, Parker Campbell, 2nd place and Michelle Thompson, 1st place. The following students won the fourth grade poetry contest: Jenna Cropp, 3rd place; Koty Ritenour, 2nd place; and, Gracie Cooke, 1st place. The fifth grade poster contest winners were: Joey Johnson, 2nd place; and, Abby Johnson, 1st place. Joey Johnson was recognized for his third place winning art entry in the VSBA regional art contest.
Students were able to enjoy a special guest, Miss Virginia, Savannah Lane who not only spoke to students about her platform, but also played just dance against students who had been given positive referrals and led a game of Simon Says.
The grand finale was the passing of the classroom trophies to Mr. Donner’s fifth grade class, Mrs. Honaker’s fourth grade class, and Mrs. Bader’s third grade class. These awards are based on classrooms with the highest acts of kindness, positive attendance, and good citizenship.
