Market Place Day3rd Grade students at Waverly Yowell participated in Marketplace Day on Tuesday April 5th. .  Students were required to use a monthly budget to purchase items such as food, insurance, and housing.  Many students felt a jolt of real the world when they had to make difficult choices pertaining to wants and needs.  This was a great experience for our students and we appreciate all the hard work that was necessary to organize the event.  A special thank you to all the parents and high school students that volunteered to provide a real life experience to our students.

Koshko 2As a culminating event for their unit of study on weather, MPS Second Grade Students enjoyed a presentation from CBS 19 weatherman Travis Koshko. Mr. Koshko performed a number of weather experiments for the students, including the effects of air pressure on a ping-pong ball, and the varying behavior of lightning. Mr. Koshko also emphasized for our youngsters the hard work and academic attention that it takes to be successful. Thanks go out to our Second Grade Team for facilitating this event, and to Christine Waldron for scheduling and organizing the presentation.

Pots 2Pinch Pot Grant.  This year MPS Pre-K was awarded a grant for pinch pots and the project has begun!  The students started by using fine-motor skills to form a clay pot.  Then, the pottery was sent to WYES teacher Katie Gigliotti who fired them in her kiln.  Last week, the students even took a field trip to Waverly, so she could show it to them, explain the process and machine, and retrieve their pottery.  Since then, they have painted the pots, as well as, pendants.  All of the artwork is going to be on display at the Festival of the Arts on April 30.  What a great way to develop fine-motor skills in a creative way while contributing to school/community events!
