Madison County High School students will soon have the opportunity to graduate with both a diploma and an associate’s degree thanks to a new partnership between the school and Germanna Community College (GCC).
Wednesday, Dr. Matt Eberhardt signed an agreement with GCC President Dr. David A. Sam to launch the Madison County Early College Program, which will begin this fall. Rising juniors will be able to enter into a two-year program combining high school and college courses to obtain both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree simultaneously.
“This is a conversation that began years ago and I’m thankful it has taken place,” Dr. Eberhardt said. “There are few [high schools in] Virginia or America that can claim this opportunity. Our students already enjoy a plethora of Germanna courses and enjoy the greatest number of dual enrollment courses of the nine high schools in the region.”
Eberhardt says the program will save families money on college tuition expenses, and give students a jump-start to earning even higher degrees.
