On Wednesday, June 1, The 10th Grade Blue Ridge Virtual Governors School (BRVGS) students in Lori Mack’s class held “opening statements” from a mock trial. In attendance and participating as one of the jurists was Madison Commonwealth Attorney Clarissa Berry.
After completing the AP Biology Exam, the class read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, while being assigned to represent either the “plaintiff” or the “defendant”. The culminating performance task was for students to present the opening statements in the Lacks Family v. Johns Hopkins case.
