2016-2017 School Board Goals

At the July 13, 2016 School Board meeting, School Board members created the following goals for the 2016-2017 school year:

  1. That all MCPS become fully accredited.
  • Insure that students learn necessary reading and other core content to be successful on local and state measures of achievement.
  • For SB to hear periodic reports enabling us to understand the strategies being employed and the progress being made throughout the year toward insuring student learning and full accreditation.
  1. That MCPS be a leader in the statewide movement toward the “Redesigned High School” focused on enhanced CTE (Career and Technical Education) and the preparation of students for the jobs of the 21st century.
  • Such leadership shall include seeking opportunities for collaboration with nearby school divisions and Germanna Community College.
  1. That we focus on positive communication with MCPS students, parents, staff, and the broader community.
  • To increase our awareness and understanding of community perceptions related to MCPS, we will conduct a broad survey in the fall of 2016, encourage broad public participation in School Board meetings, and encourage School Board attendance at community events.
  1. We continue to seek to “offer competitive salaries and benefits to assist in recruiting and retaining high quality staff.” (Long Range Plan 2011-2017).
  2. We will investigate the most energy efficient systems for MCPS.
  3. We will continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
