Earlier this month, over a hundred MCPS teachers and administrators participated in the Community Action Poverty Simulation. The simulation provided a realistic interactive immersion into the culture of poverty. Community volunteers represented various agencies. Participants received an assigned family experiencing a month of economic decisions. Clare Lillard, Extension Agent, worked tirelessly to acquire volunteers and to organize the morning simulation. Carol Lee, Department of Social Services Self Sufficiency Specialist, completed the poverty training with a discussion about the culture of poverty and available local resources.
