Local Viticulture Experts Provide Training for MCHS Horticulture Students

Revalation Vineyard’s Françoise Seillier-Moiseiwitsch Lecturing for MCHS Students

During the three-day Viticulture Training in RJ Nobblitt’s Horticulture class,  Françoise Seillier-Moiseiwitsch of Revalation Vineyard and Winery provided classroom lectures on the science and production of grapes in the Virginia growing region.  Students sampled tastings of Virginia non-alcoholic grape-based products.

Following the first lecture, students went on a field trip to Early Mountain Vineyard, lead by Maya Hood White, Vineyard Manager & Enologist.  There they saw various types of grapes growing and were told about the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of grapes.  Students toured the shop to see the special farm equipment used in the vineyard.  Next week, students will return to the vineyard to see the production of the wine, lead by Ben Jordan, winemaker.  The hope is that MCHS agricultural work-based learning students will someday be working in the local vineyards and even making a career in this field.
