The Virginia Stock Market Game sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Economic Education, Inc., gives students an opportunity to experience the life of an investor by providing $100,000 in fictitious funds to invest in the NYSE and NASDAQ. Students use their knowledge of business events and trends to buy and sell stocks and pay fees for trades just like in the real world. At the end of 12 weeks of trading, the top three teams in each region who have earned the highest return on their investment are honored at a reception hosted by the JMU Center for Economic Education. All MCHS students participate in the VA SMG as part of their Economics and Personal Finance class curriculum. Students, Hailey Helm and Scotti Mullen, operating as team, "Ocean Yank," finished third in the region for the Fall 2017 semester with a total portfolio value of $114,014.48.
