- Madison County High School
MCHS Appoints New Principal
Betty-Jo Wynham has served students in Madison, Culpeper and Albemarle Counties. She began her career as a special education teacher at William Wetsel Middle School in 2007. While teaching, she became increasingly interested in meaningful and engaging learning experiences for all students in high school classrooms. She began leading efforts for tiered instruction at the secondary level at Eastern View High School where she was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2013, and was promoted to Assistant Principal in 2014.
While serving the students and families at Eastern View, she became increasingly interested in redesigning the high school learning experience and ensuring that all students were able to leave high school with a skill set that could help them attain their future career goals. Through designing quality school-based professional learning initiatives and interweaving a meaningful school improvement plan, Wynham played a large role in the performance improvement of all students at Eastern View on the state accountability assessments. Wynham has presented and led professional development for teachers and school administrators on school improvement, school-based professional learning plans, tiered instruction, co-teaching, specialized instruction for students with disabilities, and adolescent literacy across Virginia.
After serving four years on the administrative team at Eastern View High School, Wynham joined Albemarle High School as an Assistant Principal in 2018. During the past year at Albemarle High School, she worked with the administrative team and staff to address systemic practices that were perpetuating the achievement gaps for at-risk students.
Mrs. Wynham received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from Randolph-Macon College. She received a Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Special Education K-12 from Liberty University and a Post Master’s School Leadership and Administration Endorsement from George Washington University.
