Third graders work with area organizations in annual tree planting

Waverly students help spread mulch onto a thornless honeylocust tree

MADISON, Va. - Waverly Yowell Elementary School third graders celebrated 2023's Arbor Day on April 21 with an annual event.

Adam Downing with Virginia Cooperative Extension visited the school and asked students what they had learned about trees.

Kelly Mallory, 4-H agent, visits the school once per month to teach students about agriculture.

After reviewing the different functions of trees with students, Downing invited them to help plant a thornless honeylocust tree. One by one, students did so with help from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative representatives.
