Development of an Elementary Age Child
Children ages 6-11 are in the developmental stage of Middle Childhood. Children in Middle Childhood typically are gaining an increasing sense of independence. Peer relationships become more important at this age as children look to their peers for friendships outside of the family. There is rapid growth in their physical, social and mental development. Parents continue to play a key role in helping their child to develop confidence as well as a sense of responsibility in their new found independence.
